Wk 5/6: Eckankar

I ask myself why do people need to use threatening techniques to show a message of "dont mess with me." I mean by reading this article Dodie Bellamy put a lot of time writing about Lane, John-Roger and the mystery behind Eckankar. At first i did not think it was a big deal that Eckankar was a religion that accepted people of any kind into their group to follow God but then when Dollie started to scratch at Lane for the dirt, it made more sense as it were more of a scam and fraud then actual spiritual help. It just sucks for someone trying to falsification a person even more such like Lane was trying to put down Hinkins, be threatened and even have his property be broken into. What kind of adult maturity is that? I feel like i was reading about a Eckankar leader who was about 10 or so. For someone to do that and then threaten others to not publish this story, has to be because he is hiding something and does want others to find out what it is. I do agree with Lane though when he tries to go behind their plagiarizing of other writings. I dont think thats fair for them to do that and go on about it as if it were their original work, but for them to say that it does not matter if it was or not, the only thing that matters is that it has nothing to do with your spiritual experiences. This article was awesome because to me it was more like a short story and i actually pictured every moment of it. To know that originality matters so much in Philosophy and that if someone tries to mess with it or make you seem like a fraud, your life as well as your families could be in danger. Its a dirty game out there is what it seems to me.
